Did you know that the FGCU Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) student chapter recently attended the FPRA state conference and returned with an armful of awards for being top performers? These are local students striving to perfect their skills and participate in professional-level training programs. Please give them a community-wide round of applause.
Actually, I challenge your company to go even further and give them the gift of opportunity. I’m talking about internships, mentorship programs and apprenticeships. Does your company offer this? If students are already preparing themselves to be high performing employees, let’s set the stage for them to come onboard and gain real world experience as soon as possible.
Coming up in October is an opportunity for your company to do just that! The FGCU FPRA chapter is hosting their second-annual Public Relations, Marketing, and Advertising Internship Fair on Thursday, October 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Cohen Center Ballroom on FGCU’s main campus. The students are currently recruiting businesses to participate. If your company offers internships in these fields, take this opportunity to reserve a table and meet face to face with students who are seeking a chance to apply their knowledge to your operational needs. Businesses that are interested may contact Molly Nurczyk at email@example.com. The organization’s 2014 Public Relations, Marketing, and Advertising Internship Fair won a state FPRA Golden Image Award, a Grand Image Award, an Image Award, and a Judges’ Award.
If you’re company does not currently offer an internship program, it’s time to create one. The Chamber is happy to provide guidance. We host two to three interns here at our offices each semester and can attest to the strong talent pool and great work ethic. You may contact our Director of Marketing, Chelsea Clementi at (239) 992-2943 and Chelsea@BonitaSpringsChamber.com for further assistance.
Now, think about someone who mentored you early in your career and make a plan to pay it forward!
