Workforce Labor Briefing: What Every Employer in SWFL Needs to Know

By: Christine Ross, MBA, MS, IOM, President & CEO, Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce and Executive Director, Bonita Springs Estero Economic Development Council

This week I’d like to tell you about a unique event our Chamber will be hosting on July 22 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at Florida SouthWestern State College. We are bringing in Ted Phlegar, senior counselor for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Workforce Freedom Initiative (WFI) to talk about vital human resource issues that every employer in Southwest Florida should be aware.

Mr. Phlegar will provide a briefing on labor and employment regulations, legislation, and issues impacting the workplace today. I highly encourage you to attend this event, which is sure to provide a wealth of information regarding all of the hot topics that are impacting our local businesses.

Do you know how expanded joint employer liability, ambush elections, micro-unions and mandated union access to email actually apply to your business? Many of us don’t! Also, with the rise of worker centers in the news lately, you may be wondering what these terms actually mean. The upcoming Workforce Labor Briefing will be a great opportunity to help clarify some of this confusion.

This event is not only for Chamber members; we’d like to invite the greater community to attend.  You can check out our Chamber’s programming with the greater opportunity to learn how to improve this very important administrative function in your company.

The event will be held on July 22, 2015 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at Florida SouthWestern State College in Rush Auditorium (8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33919). Registration is available at and by calling (239) 992-2943.
